Warm weather brings with it the iresistable urge to sit back, relax, enjoy a cool beverage... but when you want to steer clear of alcohol, there are still plenty of fun drinks to enjoy! Here are a few of our favorite tea-based summer mocktail recipes.
Iced tea on its own is a great alternative to alcohol-based drinks, but tea is also a great base for a variety of mocktails, adding flavor and body. Tea plays well with other ingredients, and these recipes are just a starting point! Feel free to make them your own with fun garnishes, glassware, and more.
1. Matcha Sunrise
This mocktail twist on a tequila sunrise features matcha and orange juice. A great mocktail for brunch!
Matcha Sunrise ingredients
- 1 tsp culinary grade matcha
- 1/4 cup hot water at 180º F
- 1 cup fresh squeezed orange juice
- Ice cubes
Matcha Sunrise preparation instructions
- Sift matcha into a matcha bowl and add hot water.
- Whisk with a bamboo whisker until smooth.
- Add in ice to a tall glass, pour in orange juice and top with matcha.
- Enjoy!
2. Blue Moon Horchata
The recipe tops sweet, creamy horchata with floral, brilliantly blue butterfly pea flower tea. The result is a visually stunning drink that’s perfect for cooling off with on a warm afternoon.
Blue Moon Horchata Ingredients
For the horchata:
- 1/2 cup rice, rinsed
- 1 1/2 cup water
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 cups almond milk, unsweetened
- 1 cup oat milk, unsweetened
- 1/3 cup coconut sugar
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
For the tea:
- 4 oz boiling water
- 1 tsp Butterfly Pea Flower herbal tea
Blue Moon Horchata preparation instructions
- Soak 1/2 cup rice, 1 1/2 cup water, and 1 cinnamon stick overnight.
- Place horchata ingredients in a blender.
- Blend until smooth, then strain and transfer horchata to a pitcher.
- Place the tea in a cup, infuse with hot water.
- Steep for five minutes. Strain and let it cool.
- Fill a glass with ice and pour in the horchata until 3/4 of the glass is full.
- Top off with the butterfly pea flower tea.
- Enjoy!
3. Fruity Hibiscus Slushie
Perfect for summer, this fruity hibiscus slushie is flavorful and refreshing.
Fruity Hibiscus Slushie ingredients
- 1/2 cup frozen watermelon
- 1/4 cup frozen strawberries
- Juice of a lime
- 1 1/2 cups of hibiscus tea, brewed and cooled
- 1 tbsp maple syrup

- Place all ingredients in a blender and process until smooth.
- Serve and enjoy!
4. Horchata Chai
Horchata Chai ingredients
For the horchata:
- 1/2 cup rice, rinsed
- 1 1/2 cup water
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 cups almond milk, unsweetened
- 1 cup oat milk, unsweetened
- 1/3 cup coconut sugar
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
For the tea:
- 4 oz boiling water
- 1 tsp Masala Chai loose tea
Horchata Chai preparation instructions
- Soak 1/2 cup rice, 1 1/2 cup water, and 1 cinnamon stick overnight.
- Place horchata ingredients in a blender.
- Blend until smooth, then strain and transfer horchata to a pitcher.
- Steep Masala chai for five minutes. Let it cool.
- Fill a glass with ice and pour in the horchata until 3/4 of the glass is full.
- Top off with masala chai tea.
- Enjoy!
5. Matcha Cucumber Refresher
This Matcha Cucumber Refresher is flavorful and hydrating—a wonderful option to cool off with on a warm summer afternoon.
Matcha Cucumber Refresher ingredients
- 1/2 cucumber
- 1/2 cup honeydew melon
- 10 mint leaves
- Juice of a lime
- 1 tsp Culinary Grade Matcha
- 6 oz filtered water
- 1 tbsp agave syrup
Matcha Cucumber Refresher preparation instructions
- Into a blender, add all of the ingredients and blend until smooth.
- Pour the mixture through a strainer and discard the pulp.
- Serve over ice.
6. Matcha Horchata
A twist on a classic horchata recipe, this creamy, bright matcha horchata blends the vegetal umami of matcha with the milky sweetness of horchata.
Matcha Horchata ingredients
For the horchata:
- 1/2 cup rice, rinsed
- 1 1/2 cup water
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 cups almond milk, unsweetened
- 1 cup oat milk, unsweetened
- 1/3 cup coconut sugar
- 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
For the tea:
- 4 oz hot water
- 1 tsp Culinary Grade Matcha
Matcha Horchata preparation instructions
- Soak 1/2 cup rice, 1 1/2 cup water, and 1 cinnamon stick overnight.
- Place horchata ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth.
- Strain and transfer horchata to a pitcher.
- Place the matcha in a small bowl and cover with the hot water.
- Whisk until smooth, then let it cool.
- Fill a glass with ice and pour in the horchata until 3/4 of the glass is full.
- Top off with matcha.
7. Sparkling Butterfly Pea Flower Lemonade
This bright, citrusy, and effervescent drink gets its stunning blue and purple shades from the presence of Butterfly Blue Pea Flower. The perfect drink to cool off with on a warm summer afternoon!
Sparkling Butterfly pea Flower Lemonade ingredients
- Ice cubes
- 1/2 cup sparkling water, chilled
- 4 oz Butterfly Pea Flower herbal tea, brewed and cooled (steep 1 tsp of tea in 4 oz of water).
- 2 oz lemon simple syrup
For the lemon simple syrup:
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
Sparkling Butterfly Pea Flower Lemonade preparation instructions
To prepare the lemon simple syrup:
- In a medium saucepan pan, add water and sugar.
- Bring to boil at medium heat, and stir constantly until sugar dissolves.
- Cool completely, then stir in lemon juice.
To assemble the drink:
- Fill a tall glass with ice cubes and add the sparkling water.
- Pour in the butterfly pea flower tea, then add more ice until it reaches the top of the glass.
- Slowly incorporate the lemon syrup over the ice to create a layered effect.
- Finish by garnishing with a lemon slice.
8. Kiwi Green Tea Agua Fresca
This refreshing drink combines kiwi and Moroccan Mint green tea for a light, refreshing drink perfect for cooling off with.
Kiwi Green Tea Agua Fresca ingredients
- 1 kiwi
- 1 celery stick
- 2 cups water
- 12 oz. of Moroccan Mint green tea, brewed and cooled (steep 2 tsp of tea in 12 oz of water)
- 1/4 cup simple syrup (or more if desired)
For the simple syrup:
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup sugar
Kiwi Green Tea Agua Fresca preparation instructions
- In a medium saucepan pan add water and sugar.
- Bring to boil at medium heat, stir constantly until sugar dissolves. Cool completely.
- Blend together celery stick, kiwi and water.
- Pour into a pitcher, along with the tea and simple syrup.
- Stir and serve over ice.
