How to Make Thai Tea

Thai tea is a fun, tasty tea-based drink combining Ceylon tea, spices, and sweetened condensed milk. You may have had Thai tea before at a Thai restaurant, but it's actually pretty simple to make at home! Thai tea gets its signature vibrant color from the addition of safflower.

Thai Tea Ingredients

  • 2 cups of water
  • 1/3 cup Ceylon black tea
  • 1 tbsp safflower
  • 2 star anise
  • 5 cardamom pods
  • 1 tablespoon condensed milk or vegan condensed milk
  • Whole or almond milk

Preparation Instructions

  1. To make Thai tea, add water, black tea, safflower, star anise, and cardamom pods to a small saucepan.
  2. Bring to a boil. Remove from heat, let it steep for 10 minutes, and cool completely.
  3. Strain and serve over ice. Sweetened with condensed milk and topped with milk.
