What is Ochazuke?
Ochazuke, which literally translates to "submerged in tea," is a wonderful way to use up leftovers and pair savory, umami-rich flavors together! This dish is typically made with leftover rice, salmon, and green tea. Popular teas to use include Sencha and Bancha.
Ochazuke Ingredients
Ochazuke is a flexible dish that can accommodate all kinds of leftover ingredients and toppings. Here are the basics:
- Green tea (usually Sencha or Bancha)
- Leftover rice (usually short-grained Japanese white rice)
- Leftover salmon (or other fish or protein)
- Toppings (popular toppings include sesame seeds, green onions, pickled plums, furikake, and nori)
Ochazuke Preparation Instructions
