What is Jade Oolong? Flavor, Brewing Guide, & Benefits

Jade Oolong features large, hand-rolled leaves and has a delicate, mellow flavor with a smooth finish. Less oxidized than some other types of oolong, this fragrant tea has a lighter and more subtle flavor as a result, with floral and vegetal notes.

About Jade Oolong

Jade Song is one of our lighter, greener oolongs. While black teas are fully oxidized, and green teas are steamed or pan-fired to prevent oxidation, oolong teas fall somewhere in the middle. Some oolongs, like amber oolongs, are more oxidized, resulting in darker tea leaves and an amber-colored brew. In the case of less oxidized oolongs like Jade Oolong, the leaves are greener and the flavor is mellower as a result. With a low to moderate caffeine content, Jade Song is stimulating and refreshing without any of the jitters or crash of coffee.

Jade Song gets its name from the beautiful deep green color of the tea leaves. These leaves unfurl as they steep, changing shape from tightly rolled balls to full loose leaves. Jade Song is an excellent example of a Taiwanese Oolong, with a light body and a mellow flavor with floral and vegetal notes. If you’re new to oolong teas, Jade Song is a good introduction to the type; and if you’re already an oolong aficionado, Jade Song is a great addition to your collection.

Jade Oolong benefits

Oolong tea boosts energy, helps with focus, and supports digestion.

Jade Oolong caffeine content

Oolong tea contains a moderate amount of caffeine, less than half as much as coffee per cup.

How to brew Jade Oolong

To brew Jade Oolong, use 1 level teaspoon per 6 oz. water. Heat water until briskly steaming (not boiling). Steep for 2 - 3 minutes. This tea will easily handle multiple infusions.

To prepare Jade Song, we recommend that you use a teapot, tea infuser, or tea filter. These brewing methods give the tea leaves enough room to expand as the tea steeps, resulting in a richer, more flavorful cup. Like many oolong teas, Jade Song can be infused many times over.
